{"id":20325,"date":"2021-01-18T17:14:31","date_gmt":"2021-01-18T22:14:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.reivax.com\/us\/?p=20325"},"modified":"2025-08-19T14:08:17","modified_gmt":"2025-08-19T18:08:17","slug":"reivax-is-awarded-an-excitation-system-controls-upgrade-for-siemens-ex-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.reivax.com\/us\/reivax-is-awarded-an-excitation-system-controls-upgrade-for-siemens-ex-2\/","title":{"rendered":"REIVAX is Awarded an Excitation System Controls Upgrade for Siemens EX-2"},"content":{"rendered":"<section class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\">[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]\r\n<h3><strong>REIVAX NORTH AMERICA TO SUPPLY CONTROLS UPGRADE FOR SIEMENS EX-2<\/strong><\/h3>\r\nThis new award is the direct result of Reivax&#8217;s successful controls upgrade of a previous Siemens EX-2 excitation system at the same hydro station in 2018.\r\n\r\nThe obsolescence of Siemens EX-2 control components was the main driver for the upgrade, but the unit also had experienced reliability issues of the existing thyristor converter.\r\n\r\nThe existing excitation equipment is installed in an outdoor e-house, severely limiting accessibility in order to remove and replace old equipment. As such, a complete replacement of the static excitation system would have involved removing the roof of the e-house, which would have been a challenging effort.\u00a0 To alleviate these concerns, Reivax proposed a drop-in replacement thyristor bridge in place of the original Siemens thyristor bridge.\u00a0 The new thyristor bridge was able to fit through the man door of the e-house.\u00a0 The existing cubicles with AC breaker, crowbar, field flashing and bus bars were all re-used.\r\n\r\nThe hydro plant is located in Alabama spanning across the Tennessee River.
