Joint Control System- JCX

JOINT CONTROL SYSTEM – JCX

The JCX joint control system is based on REIVAX’s most advanced platform, designed to ensure high performance and reliability.

It performs the centralized generation control function, and is suitable for power plants with or without REIVAX regulators. It features a modular design, expandability, and configurable software, enabling it to meet a wide range of requirements and application-specific needs.

Certified according to major electromagnetic compatibility standards and built specifically for the most demanding sectors, the system operates in highly aggressive environments.

The main objective of a joint control system is to simplify the operation of a hydroelectric power plant, offering greater efficiency and safety.

In conventional operation, the operator must individually adjust the power setpoints of each unit based on the scheduled dispatch for the whole plant.

With the JCX POWER joint control, the operator enters the total desired power reference, and the controller automatically calculates the individual power references, aiming for optimal generation efficiency while complying with each generating unit’s operational constraints.

The JCX is composed of dedicated hardware and an HMI (Human-Machine Interface), making operation and configuration easier. Integration with REIVAX or third-party regulators is carried out via communication protocols or analog/digital inputs and outputs.

JCX FEATURES AND OPERATING MODES

  • Equal or optimized load dispatch
  • Secondary frequency control
  • Positive and negative spinning reserve for frequency events or large load variations
  • Safe operating range, configurable per generating unit
  • Operating Modes:
    • By generating unit (individual)
    • By group of units or the entire plant (centralized)
  • Control Modes:
    • Bus voltage (Joint Voltage Control)
    • Active power (Joint Load Control)
    • Reactive power sharing
  • HMI (Human-Machine Interface):
    • High acquisition rate for real-time visualization of key process signals
    • Multiple access levels for different user profiles

DATALOGGER, Sequence of Events (SOE) and SCADA interface

The datalogger and Sequence of Events (SOE) function is performed by synchronizing the system clock with a GPS signal (IRIG-B, NTP, or PTP) and using high-frequency sampling (1 ms). It includes eight (8) configurable triggers with pre/post-trigger recording capability, allowing visualization of system behavior before and after the trigger is activated.

Communication with the SCADA/PLC system is established via the following protocols:
IEC 61850 GOOSE/MMS, DNP3.0 ETHERNET, IEC 60870-5-101, or Modbus TCP/IP
