What is a Control and Automation Combined System?

It is a solution that combines the Excitation with the Digital Governor and with the gererating unit Automation system.

It has the responsibility of control the frequency, the active power, the voltage, the reactive power, plus to operate and monitore the generating unit subsystems. It’s a lot of responsibility, isn’t it?

This innovation emerged in 1999 in the Research and Development area of REIVAX, and revolutionized the power systems forever!

Applied for medium and small-sized hydroelectric power plants, it has an exceptional cost-benefit relationship!

 

RTVAX POWER

The REIVAX hardware and software platform, fully programmable and expandable, based on two already consolidated and powerful equipments Excitation System (RTX POWER) and Digital Governor (RVX POWER), was the foundation for more innovation.

Combining the functionalities and tools available in RTX and RVX, increasing the automation logics for the generating unit subsystems, results in the RTVAX POWER.

Such flexibility makes it possible to incorporate protection relays into the same cubicle, optimizing the physical space and the client’s investment. It also allows controlling the excitation and starting process of synchronous condensers, or the automation logics and frequency/power control of the unit. Flexibility and resources optimization!

MAIN FEATURES

The RTVAX POWER controls the following components:

  • Bearings + lubrication + cooling + oil injection into the bearings (jacking);
  • Brake system – application/de-application, failures monitoring;
  • Gateways (downstream/upstream) and spillways: gates, HPU, drive system;
  • Hydraulic Power Unit, including the 65S valve, and mechanical overspeed device;
  • Interface with the Substation + Step-up Transformer + PTs and CTs;
  • Interface with Electrical Protection (generator, Step-up Transformer, buses, lines) and automatic and manual synchronization;
  • Generator Surge Cubicle – monitoring;
  • Auxiliary services AC and DC, Lighting, air conditioners: Transformer, circuit breakers, panels, etc.;
  • Interface with battery charger (rectifier), battery bank, and emergency generator (GENSET);
  • Butterfly valve, bypass valve, pressure-equalized penstock;
  • Activation and monitoring of group circuit breaker (52);
  • Interface with communication system (dispatch center, National Operator);
  • Vibration monitor, Digital Disturbance Recorder (DDR).
