REIVAX Energy Management System, EMS, is the hardware and software solution responsible for monitoring, controlling and optimizing the operation of Battery Energy Storage System, BESS. The EMS coordinates the interaction of the BESS with renewable energy sources and the power grid for on-grid, off-grid and hybrid supply. The REIVAX EMS has the capability to control and integrate BESS with photovoltaic plants, wind farms and the main grid, as well as interact with diesel and gas generators to support both on-grid and off-grid operations.
EMS can be applied to manage various types of energy sources to meet specific application objectives such as peak shaving, energy scheduling, power smoothing, backup supply, black start recover, islanding and microgrid, with complying with grid code requirements imposed by network operators. Its applicability ranges from Front-of-the-Meter (FTM) to Behind-the-Meter (BTM) projects. In FTM projects, the EMS is typically used in standalone applications and hybrid plants, whereas in BTM, the EMS orchestrates multiple sources and equipment to ensure grid reliability for critical loads and data centers.
EMS BESS controller focused on optimizing battery usage and is therefore responsible for the control and coordination of multiple BESS unis, operating in accordance with commands issued by higher-level systems such as the EMS Master, Virtual Power Plants (VPP), Distributed Energy Resources Management System (DERMS) or Power Plant Control (PPC). Acting as an abstraction layer, the BESS controller receives external commands and manages various fields devices (PCS+BMS), logically consolidating them into a single BESS for the upper system hierarchy.
In this way, the EMS Master or VPP interacts with the BESS site as if it were a single asset with a defined behavior, regardless of the number or manufacturer of the installed equipment. The BESS Controller ensures that the site operates according to the desired performance profile, guaranteeing interoperability, standardization and efficient control.

The EMS BESS Controller adopts control strategies to keep the site as uniform as possible, maximizing the energy capacity of the batteries and the efficiency of the PCS and transformer.
Coordination of start-up and shutdown of the entire plant, parts of the plant or individual units.
Monitoring of multiple batteries and control management to equalize state of charge (SOC) levels and maintain energy capacity.
Algorithm to intelligently distribute active power among PCS units, based on equipment capacity curves, as well as battery SOC and SOH. This functionality is particularly important during augmentation, retrofit or plant expansion stages, where the EMS must manage PCS units with different power ratings within a single BESS.
Control latency compatible with the response time requirements of demanding markets. Execution time < 60ms.
